Overview of Spice Board Registration

The Spices Board (Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India) is an organization working for the development and promotion of Indian spices globally. The council acts as a bridge between Indian spice exporters and foreign importers. Additionally, the Spices Council is a driving force behind the excellence of Indian spices and the achievements of every segment of the industry.

The Spices Board is the regulatory body of the Government of India that promotes Indian spices in the global market. The agency was established in 1987 after merging with the erstwhile Cardamom Board in 1968 and the Spices Export Promotion Board in 1960. The Board’s responsibility is to oversee the development and promotion of cardamom and the 52 other spices listed in the Schedule to the Spices Board Act, 1986.

Furthermore, the Board is responsible for issuing certificates to individuals or organizations wishing to engage in or start work related to spices. In addition, the Board also issues a Certificate of Registration as Spices Exporter (CRES) under section 11 of the Spices Board Act, 1986.

Also, the Act covers spice products in all forms, including curry powders, spice oils, oleoresins, and other types of mixes in which spices are the main ingredient or where the spice content is predominant.

Documents required to obtain an Spice Board Registration

  1. Application in the prescribed form i.e., Form-I under Section 12 of the Spices Board (Registration of Exporters) Regulation, 1989
  2. Self-attested copy of the Import-Export (IE) Code Certificate
  3. Registration fees in a crossed demand draft in favor of “Spice Board and Request.”
  4. Self-certified copies of Partnership Deed or Memorandum of Association (MOA) and
  5. Article of Association (AOA), as per the requirement of the case
  6. Self-attested copy of PAN Card of the applicant
  7. Also, a Self-certified copy of the GST Registration Certificate
  8. In case the applicant is an Exporter of Manufactured Spices products, there is a need to submit a self-attested certificate issued by the Directorate of Industries
  9. A passport size photo of the CEO or Designated officer of your firm
