Overview of Packer Manufacturer License
- According to Legal Metrology Act, a packer or manufacturer who sells or distributes pre-packaged goods has to apply for registration of packing license for packaged goods under Rule 27 of Legal Metrology Rules, 2011.
- The manufacturer or packer has to apply for Packaged Commodity Registration or Packing License Registration within 90 days of starting pre-packaging of the product. To obtain a license for packing in India, interested businesses must apply to the Legal Metrology Department for packing license registration.
- The registration process for packer license in India is clearly defined in the Legal Metrology Act of 2009. After considering the legal process for acquiring the necessary license, the Legal Metrology Department issues the product certificate to the business.

Eligibility criteria for Packer Manufacturer License in India
- In order to obtain a product license certificate, you must comply with all the rules specified in the requirements of the LMPC.
- Prohibition on Quotation
- No person shall in respect of any goods, merchandise or service.
- Quote or announce any price or charge
- Issue or display any price list, invoice or cash memo
- Create or publish any advertisement or poster
- Show the net quantity of pre-packaged commodity
- Provisions shall not apply to export of any goods, commodity or service
