Overview of News Agencies License

According to the guidelines for uplinking of news and current affairs TV channels in India, introduced in 2003 and since then many amendments have been made, those who want to start a news organization have to seek permission from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This is known as “news agency registration” in layman’s terms.

Getting this permission to set up your own New Agency involves

1. Permission for setting up of uplinking Hubs/ Teleports
2. Permission for uplinking A news and Current Affairs TV channel
3. Permission for uplinking by Indian News Agency
4. Permission to use SNG or DNG Equipments in C Band and KU Band

Eligibility criteria for News Agencies License in India

• Online News Channel Registration in India

Every News Agency registration applicant must fulfill the following criteria before filing the registration application:

• Permission for setting up uplinking hubs

1. Company incorporated as per the Companies Act of 2013
2. The applicant company must have a minimum net worth of INR 3 Crore.

• Permission to uplink a News and Current Affairs TV channel

1. company incorporated under the Companies Act of 2013.
2. The applicant company must have a minimum net worth of INR 20 Crore.

Permission if you’re proposed Agency is Indian

• company incorporated under the Companies Act of 2013.
• The applicant company should be accredited by Press Information Bureau (PIB).
• The applicant company should be 100% owned by Indians, with Indian Management Control.

Documents required to obtain an News Agencies License

The applicant must submit the following document along with the registration application to further bolden their candidature in the acquisition of the License:

• Application Filing Documents

1. Receipt of the Application Processing fee
2. Duly filled application form-1

• Affidavits

1. Affidavit in Form 1A & 1C for up-linking
2. Affidavit in Form 1A & 1B for down-linking
3. Affidavit that your Company shall abide by the MIB terms and conditions

• Company Incorporation Certificates

1. Shareholding pattern of the Company
2. Certificate of Incorporation
3. Memorandum of Association
4. Articles of Association

• Company Director Details

1. Bio Data and Photo ID of the directors
2. List of Directors of the Company

• Annual Financial Statements

1. Audited Balance Sheet of the last three years (from the date of application filing)
2. Profit and Loss Statement of the past three years (from the date of application filing)
3. Auditor’s report for the past three years (from the date of application filing)
4. Calculation sheet for the FDI

• Agreements

1. Agreement with TSP for DSNG Van services. In case you’re using a third-party teleporter
2. Satellite Lease Agreement, including maps

• Equipment’s Technical Literature

1. Details of the Transponder(s)
2. Detailed Technical Specifications of the equipment
3. Copy of the Block Schematic Diagram for downlinking and distribution

• Other Documents

1. Project Report
2. List of Enclosures for Uplinking
3. Copy of valid PIB Accreditation
4. FixPoint Chart
